BJJ in Chiang Mai

August, 2016

BJJ, Jungle and Temples

Duration: 6 days, 5 nights
Location: Chiang Mai, THA

After coming back from Hong Kong where I visited my friend Cheng. I took spontaneous the train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai

Exploring the city and the local gyms in and around Chaing Mai

Training

Chaing Mai is full of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but you have to find out which gym fits you. So did I.

The first gym I wen was Team Quest the gym was located a bit outside of the city. They offered a variety of trainings (BJJ, Wrestling, MMA and Muay Thai). I went to a morning Muay Thai class and an evening BJJ class. The level was quite competitive. They had a lot of active MMA fighter in the gym.

The second team I can`t find anymore. I guess it`s closed. It was based in a CrossFit gym and the training was directed by an eastern European black belt with low motivation to teach the class.

The third and final gym I tried was Chiang Mai BJJ. A gym that`s located in the rooftop of a house runned by an English fella. I wished I would have gone there first. The team was super nice and they were welcoming me friendly.

If I ever go back to Chang Mai I will definitley visit Pure Grappling. Since a couple of years my friend Cheng form Hong Kong is teaching there.

Other stuff I did

I highly recommend you the train ride from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. You will start in a busy city and it ends in a breathtaking jungle.

Around the city there are a lot of temples. I rented a scooter and drove around to visited them.

As Thailand is also well known for their delicious food you have to visit the night markets and try the local street food.
