November, 2022Capital, Cyborg and BJJ
Duration: 3 days, 3 nights
Location Bogota, COL
Costs: Flight 78$, Hotels 90$
Third stop on Colombia, the capital Bogota.
What a crazy big city this is….
Meeting Roberto «Cyborg» Abreu for the third time.
And of course exploring the city.
Getting here
I took the airplane to safe time. The flight takes about 45 minutes.
The bus is the cheaper version but it takes around 10 hours.
BJJ
The seminar with Roberto «Cyborg» Abreu was one of the main reasons to come to Bogota. Meeting him for the third time (1st in Miami, 2nd in Zürich). As soon as I saw the post of BJJ Events Bogota, that they will do a seminar around the time when I will be in Colombia, I knew I want to be there.
The seminar was holden in a kind of an event location that looked like a seminar room of a hotel.
Here were around 80 athletes from different levels to join in the seminar.
Where else to train: Affinity Studios, WAC TEAM, Gracie Barra, TEAM CALASANS, Valknut Parabellum and Nagare Brazilian Jiujitsu
Food and drinks
Ajiaco is Bogota’s famous dish. It is a soup made with chicken, potato’s, herbs, avocado and corn. Normally served with rice.
A special drink you find here is Chicha. It`s a drink made from the indigene people of Bogota. The taste is sour and sweet. It`s made out of fermented beverage corn. Smells weird but defiantly worth to try.
You will also find Coca tea, made out of the leafs of the coca plant.
What to do
I only had two full days here and one was covered by the seminar.
So the other day I was ready to discover the city. I get up early in the morning and took the cable car to Montserrat, to have I nice view over the huge city. I would hike up but I had no time because it takes an hour and I booked already a tour after. On top of the hill you will find a church, some food corner and street sellers.
After that I took a free walking tour, best way to see the most important things in a city and know the history. The tour starts at the Museo del oro and brings you through La Candelaria where you will see; Plaza de Boliviar, Museo Botero and Teatro Colon Bogota. I had no time to entre those place but they must be worth to visit.
Nightlife
The nightlife in Bogota is spread out across the city, so there’s no party zone, a good place to go out is around zona T.
Good to know
You need to show a proof how you leave the country when you enter.
They can also ask for a proof of a yellow fiver vaccination.
Chapinero and la Candelaria are the best places to stay in Bogota.
UBER is available everywhere in the city and most of the time the fastest way to travel. Bogota has also a bus system.
The currency is Colombian Peso (COP).
