BJJ Winter Week in Leipzig

3th edition of the BJJwinterweek was holden in Leipzig Germany.

The event was hosted by 8 weapons gym the home of honey badger JJ where my friend Fritz is one of the coaches.

Getting here

I took the train from Warsaw to get there because it was as fast as flying but much cheaper.

BJJ

Before the Winterweek began I had the pleasure to train in a normal NoGi class on Tuesday at 8 weapons which was guided by Fritz.

From Wednesday to Sunday the gym hosted the Winterweek. Everyday two to three seminars and between open mats.

The Professor`s were Chris Heerey, Daniele Pisu, Flavio Santiago, Marco Bancone and Michelle Nicolini.

After training there was always a dinner together and on some days a tour.

Food and drinks

The Leipzig you will find heavy traditional German food.

The specialties are:

Leipziger Allerlei is a traditional vegetables dish. It is normally a side dish made out of Carottes, Beans, Peas, Asparagus and Morels. The classic version is made with a crab sauce and served with semolina dumplings.

Leipziger Lerche is a sweet pastry the name Lerche comes from a bird. It looks like a pate with marzipan and jam inside.

And don’t forget to get a Gisela shot while you are in a bar. It`s vodka with lime juice.

What to do

The city of Leipzig is known to be part in the novel Faust from Göthe. You will find sculptures in the city that remind to it.

In the oldtown you will find a big market square and two churches. The St. Thomas and the Nikola church.

A bit outside you will find a was monument it reminds of the battle of Leipzig in 1813.

Good to know

Due to Germany is in the EU I didn’t need a visa.

The city has a good tram system. UBER isn`t availible.

The currency is the Euro.
