Duration: 7 days, 6 nights
Location: Guadalajara, MEX
Costs: Flight 400$

Visiting my friend Gabo which I know from Summer week 21 and Winter week 22 in Guadalajara and enjoying Mexican life.

I was able to train with him at Kraken`s Bay BJJ in Guadalajara.

Thank Gabo to host me at his house.

Getting here

The only way for me was by airplane. coming in from Puerto Rico there was no other way.

You can also take a bus it would take around 8 hours from Mexico City to here.

BJJ

I was able to train at Kraken’s Bay 4 days in a row. The first 2 trainings were a seminar given by Hector Sobrio.

The following day I went to regular classes on Monday and Tuesday. Monday to Friday they offering morning and evening classes and on Saturday there is an open mat.

The mat area of the academy is around 80m2.

You will find all sorts of belts on the mat.

Other Academys in GDL: Alliance, Sparta fight team, Wolfgang and Dog House BJJ

Lucha Libre

One thing you definitely have to do is watch a Lucha Libre Show. Lucha libre is the Mexican Wrestling, the Show is around 2 hours of pure action without big break between the matches.

We went to the Arena Coliseo de Guadalajara where the CMLL league takes place. The Arena is in a not so nice neighborhood so you should get there by taxi and leave after the show.

The matches are either 1 on 1 or Tag-Team with groups of Wrestlers. The show is super-fast and the actors are flying around in and outside of the ring. Sometimes the wrestlers arguing with the crowd.

The crowd is mostly singing or shouting at the wrestlers. In the back stands where the cheaper places are they play drums.

Food and drinks

Mexico is one of the highest obesity worldwide. You can definitely see this when you go out to eat. A common thing is to grab something on the street where you find a lot of stands selling dishes for less money. If you go to the restaurant, you will find healthier food.

Beside a large selection of local beer, drinking Tequila is their thing. In every restaurant you will see someone drinking it. I went with Gabo to the town of Tequila and had a tour. Can highly recommend that.

Nightlife

Mexican`s love to party you will find everyday a party. We went to the Chapultepec which is a street full of restaurants, bars and night clubs. You will definitely find something to do there. Sometimes they show their old VW on the street there.

Good to know

For Europeans getting in to Mexico is easy. You only need to fill a form in the airplane to enter. No Visa needed.

You also should visit Tlaquepaque. It is more quite but you find a lot of local restaurants and street food. It’s a family friendly pueblo magico.

The currency is Peso.
