BJJ in Riobamba
December, 2022Mountains, hiking and BJJ
Duration: 3 days, 2 nights
Location: Riobamba, ECU
Costs: Bus 5$, Room 30$
Second stop in Ecuador brought me to Riobamba. One of the first towns in Ecuador founded by the Spanish. The town is in the middle of the country and perfect to reach every city within 4 hours.
Half way invited by the people there, after hearing from Carlos Barreto that I`m travelling around to train Jiu-Jitsu.
Trishi and his friends wanted me to come over, so did I.
Getting here
The bus ride from Quito Terminal Terreste Quitumbe takes around 3.5 hours and costs only 5.30$
BJJ
Trishi runs a gym in the back of his travel agency. The mat area is around 50qm.
It`s located close to the center of the town.
They are training there sometimes in the morning and always in the afternoon. He also runs a kid`s program.
The time I was there the maximum of people was 6 on the mats and a good mix of belts.
Food and drinks
The food is similar to Quito.
I had Llapingachos as breakfast, together with pork and salad. After that you can skip lunch 🙂
As well you will find all kind of Empanadas.
One thing I heard is very good in Riobamba is Cuy. It`s nothing else than Guinea pig. I didn`t had the chance to try it but I will when I`m back in Quito.
What to do
Riobamba is a great place for outdoor sport such as hiking and climbing. Thanks to the surrounding mountains.
There are also many beautyful little villages around Riobamba. For longer stays defenetly worth a visit.
Nightlife
In the city centre you will find a lot of bars. Around Thursday`s it gets busier.
Good to know
Mario, a friend and team mate of Trishi offered me a room in his apartment.
Riobamba is located on 2750m. You will feel the hight here. As you do in Quito
Most of the time I took a taxi or walked. The city so not as big as Quito.
The currency is Dollar $.
