October, 2022

Slowing down, train and dive

Duration: 6 days, 5 nights
Island: St.Barth, BL
Costs: Bus+Flight 750Chf, Hotel 675Euro incl. rental car

My long planned journey gets stuck a little at the airport due to a missing form. Rebooked everything and made it with a day delay to St. Barth.

Starting on a Caribbean island was a great idea.

Thanks to Christian for bringing me here.

Getting here

I had some trouble to come to the island but this was my fault.

On my second try to get here I took an overnight Flixbus from Zürich to Paris.

Early Sunday morning I enter to the airplane from Paris to Guadeloupe and from there with a smaller airplane to St. Barth. the flight with the small airplane is a bit of an adventure. Only 10 seats in the airplane and not a lot of room makes it fancy. The landing on the island is the hardest part for the pilot. St. Barth is the third most dangerous airport in the world. The landing track is behind a small hill. After crossing that the need to bring the airplane down.

The main route by airplane are over St. Maarten or Guadeloupe. There is also a ferry from St. Maarten to the island.

BJJ

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday the Saint Barth BJJ is offering classes.

Wednesday and Saturday they are offering kids classes as well.

The gym is based in the sports area on the island right next to the airport. Around 100m2 of mats.

I trained twice at the gym. Due to offseason there where around 10 people on the mats of all levels. At the highseason it will double.

The calsses were guided bi Christan Graugard himselfe. The atmophere is realey easy and the people are super friendliy and will welcome everybody.

Watersports

Thanks to Jean Charles, I became aware of Serial Divers. I took the chance to do my advanced open water here in the Caribbean.

Five dives in two days.

Compared to what I saw St. Barth has a beautiful underwater world. You can see a lot of fish, reef sharks, turtles and rays. There are also wrecks you can dive and different reefs. I really enjoyed my 5 dives.

Good to know

A rental car or a motorcycle is very useful to discover the island. I had a car included in my hotel price.

St Barth is a French colony. Most people speak French, but you can also get by very well with English.

Since the island belongs to France, the same rules apply to travelers as in the EU. As a European you don’t need a visa.

The currency is Euro.
